Every perfume hides an inspiration, a story.
The Penhaligon's brand appeared in the 1860s thanks to William Henry Penhaligon , an English barber and perfumer. Having moved to London from the provinces, he began working in Turkish baths as a barber. In 1872 William presented his first fragrance. We are referring to the legendary Hammam Bouquet , a luxurious and enveloping bouquet of lavender, bergamot, rose, cedar, musk and notes of amber, which won many hearts in Great Britain. Having also an entrepreneurial spirit among his qualities, he soon decided to open his first hairdressing salon and a shop that sold cosmetic products. William Penhaligon 's perfumery had its classic and elegant style, but his son Walter who entered the family business in 1887 obtained truly unique and unrepeatable perfumes. During his countless travels Walter sought new ideas and emotions, he developed new revolutionary formulas for the time. Even members of the royal family were interested in the new brand and did not hesitate to order its fragrances. Over time, the brand obtained the right to use the royal coat of arms on the packaging of the fragrances. The Penhaligons scrupulously chose natural ingredients of the highest quality of plant and animal origin.
However, the Brand changes its concept of understanding "Perfume" a little over the course of its life and moves from the clean English colonies that have always characterized it to a more Aristocratic concept of perfume with the Portraits collection, which is enriched year after year with characters, and with which the Penhaligon's Brand has brought a breath of vitality: the first olfactory fiction makes its appearance in the world of niche perfumery. The smells are more "complex" olfactively speaking.
